Universal Studios Singapore

Introduction:

Universal Studios Singapore (USS) is a world-class theme park located within Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island, Singapore. As Southeast Asia’s first and only Universal Studios theme park, it features 24 rides, shows, and attractions spread across seven immersive themed zones. It is one of five Universal Studios parks globally and a top attraction in Singapore for both local visitors and international tourists.

Universal Studios Singapore was a major part of Genting Singapore’s winning bid to develop the country’s second integrated resort (IR). The Singapore government awarded the bid on 8 December 2006, and construction began on 19 April 2007. It is the second Universal Studios theme park in Asia, after Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.

The park’s official layout was revealed on 20 October 2009. Universal Studios Singapore soft-opened in early 2010 and officially launched operations on 28 May 2011. Within nine months of opening, the park welcomed over 2 million guests, with over 3 million visitors recorded in its first full year. Since then, it has attracted around 4 million annual visitors, making it one of the most visited theme parks globally, according to the AECOM Theme Index Global Attraction Attendance Report.

Marketed by Universal Destinations & Experiences as a “one-of-its-kind theme park in Asia,” USS offers a unique experience unmatched in the region. With thrilling rides, live entertainment, and attractions based on popular movies, it remains a top-rated tourist destination in Singapore.

Universal Studios Singapore is a must-visit for family entertainment, theme park enthusiasts, and travelers seeking the best attractions in Southeast Asia.

Park history

The construction of Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios Singapore began on 19 April 2008, and after nearly two years, the theme park officially opened on 18 March 2010.
Ahead of its full launch, Universal Studios Singapore held a special “sneak peek week” from 14 to 21 February 2010, in celebration of Chinese New Year. Visitors paid SGD$10 for entry from 5 pm to 9 pm, even though rides were not operational. Despite this, all tickets were sold out within two days, highlighting the strong public interest.
On 5 March 2010, it was officially announced that the park would begin a soft-opening phase at 8:28 am on 18 March 2010. Starting from 13 March 2010, employees of Resorts World Sentosa and their families had early access before the park opened to the general public. The soft opening lasted until 26 October 2010.
Universal Studios Singapore held its grand opening on 28 May 2011, preceded by a glamorous “grand opening gala” on 27 May. Celebrities such as Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, Zhao Wei, and Paula Abdul were in attendance, along with 1,600 distinguished guests.
The park launched its first Halloween Horror Nights event on 21 October 2011, now a popular annual attraction.
On 3 April 2019, Genting Group announced a major expansion of Universal Studios Singapore, introducing two exciting new themed zones: Minion Land and Super Nintendo World.
Universal Studios Singapore continues to be one of the top tourist attractions in Singapore, offering world-class entertainment, immersive experiences, and new adventures for visitors of all ages.
